Residents' parking permit delight

THE council’s portfolio holder for public protection has spoken of her delight that next year’s budget includes free resident parking permits for people in Ockendon.

Speaking after the meeting that set the budget, Cllr Angie Gaywood said: “As a former Flowers Estate resident, I know well the problems people there have faced with commuter parking.

“When I became portfolio holder, I made the pledge to address the problem. Not with a short-term solution, but one that covered the whole of the estate, the car park, verge parking and Tamarisk Road.

“What we are offering is, in essence, at no cost to residents.

“Consultations will start soon and we will work with people to ensure they have their full say.

“If they agree, they will have two resident parking permits for each home for free.

“It’s just as pleasing for me that problems of commuter parking in Grays, around Badgers Dene and areas of Tilbury, are going to be looked at as well.”

Would this be the same free parking permits that the Tories were planning a few years ago? Strange that Labours' only Councillor in Ockendon voted against this plan to prove a point, yet it wasn't mentioned. Perhaps they are hoping that by ignoring the problem it will go away.
