Call for unity over crossing threat

THURROCK Council has called for politicians of all colour to unite in the fight against plans for a new Thames crossing.

John Kent, leader of the council, said the authority had to focus on a Government consultation, which sets out options for a new crossing and its approach routes.

Option A is just to the west of the current Dartford crossing, Option B goes straight through Grays Beach Park and somewhere between Asda, Tilbury and Thurrock Park to the Dock Approach Road and Option C goes through Tilbury, East and West Tilbury, Chadwell, Orsett Heath, Orsett and Bulphan.

Mr Kent said: “We don’t need a crossing, let alone six or eight-lane motorway ruining our environment. We need the support of MPs as well as every councillor.

"We need the support of Parliamentary candidates as well as every family in Thurrock.”

As a daily commuter from Stanford to Dartford something need to be done about the traffic. Removing the toll at the existing crossing would be a good start (as promised years ago!)

It would be such a vote winner for the Tories but they seem more interested in the money it generates.

Utter madness, how much money has been wasted paying for these proposals to be drawn up when EVERYONE using the crossing KNOWS that the removal of the toll booths will fix the congestion.

Option C would be great with a link to the M25 via Orsett.

The South East is growing and only by expanding our road network will we stop the roads grinding to a halt.
