POLICE sealed off Thurrock tip after a suspected hand grenade was found.
Officers set up a cordon around the recycling centre shortly before 10am on Tuesday in Buckingham Hill Road, Stanford le Hope, after a worker found what they thought was a hand grenade in the refuse.
The centre was shut while the police wait for the MOD specialist explosive ordnance disposal team to assess the find.
When the bomb squad arrived, they discovered the hand grenade was actually an empty shell and was harmless.
The cordon was removed at about 12pm.
