THREE youngsters from Grays have been chosen to go on a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Nepal.

George Goddard, Lauren Shaw and Chloe Simmons, who are all former pupils at Grays Media Arts College, are three of just 12 16 to 21-year-olds selected for the trip, which will take in the capital of Nepal, Kathmandu, and a trek to a remote village in the mountains.

The trio will be pushed to interact without a shared language, to overcome physical and mental challenges and to open their eyes to the different part of the world.

The expedition, set to take place in August of this year, is being organised by the Essex Boys and Girls Club.

George Lauren and Chloe are also responsible for raising the majority of the funds for the three-week trip themselves.

They have already been given grants of £100 each by their school and plan to fundraise further through bucket collections.

George has also organised a Big Night Out. The event on Saturday March 2, is being billed as an evening of fun and laughter, with dancers, comedians and live music. There will also be a disco to finish the night.

The event, which is being held at St Thomas of Canterbury RC Church, in East Thurrock Road, Grays, will start at 8pm.

Tickets are £6 for adults, £3 for children and a family ticket will cost £15. Tickets are available by calling April on 07866 093856 or by e-mailing George at george_mp_@hotmail.co.uk or they can be bought on the door.
