Slip roads to close as A13 work steps up

MOTORISTS heading London-bound on the A13, leaving at the Manorway juncton, will be sent on a two-mile diversion from early March.

Murphy, the contractor carrying out junction work at the Stanford-le-Hope exit, has announced work will enter its next phase, meaning slip road closures will come into effect.

Delays are likely and Murphy has advised drivers to allow extra time for journeys.

Slip roads will be closed one at a time between March and September, with the first being the London-bound exit. It will close in early March for approximately four weeks.

The diversion will force drivers to exit the A13 at the next junction, for Orsett, and head back down the A13 Southend-bound to exit at Manorway.

This is to allow remodelling of the slip roads as part of work being undertaken by DP World, whose London Gateway superport opens later this year, to increase capacity.

David Huckstep, Murphy project manager, said: “We want to give motorists as much notice as possible about the slip road closures, so they can plan their journey accordingly. Diversions will be signposted.”
