A BAND is set to play a London gig ahead of a string of new dates.

Trash Monroe, has two members from Thurrock, Brad Hurr, from South Ockendon, on guitar, and Dave Pankhurst, from East Tilbury, on drums.

Melany Dantes fronts the five-piece with Matt Rowe on 12-string guitar and Ken Mortimer on bass completing the group.

The group will now be part of a six-band event at the O2 Islington Academy on February 21 after being approached by the organisers, who had heard their music online.

Dave explained: “They found us through Facebook and asked us. “We have been playing Chinnerys in Southend and other venues around Essex but to get asked to play the O2 – we thought we would definitely do that.”

Trash Monroe was formed 10 years ago and has recorded EPs and singles as well as going through some line-up changes.

Dave said the band was now moving forward and looking to book some more gigs.

He said: “I have been in the band since last February and it is all going good. Everyone gets on and we are all full of enthusiasm.

“We had a single release party in November last year. We recorded six tracks and instead of releasing them all at once we spread them out.

“We rel-eased two last year and prior to the release we did a free download from our Facebook page.”

The group also took part in the Band Crusade competition and filmed a video for their track S.O.B. which can be viewed on the Gazette’s website www.thurrockgazette.co.uk

Tickets for the Islington show are £6.50 at www.trashmonroe.com.

Trash Monroe are also playing Stevenage on February 22, High Wycombe on March 1, Croydon on March 2 and Harlow on March 22.
