Banquet as academy celebrates

A NEWLY-created academy in Grays held a medieval banquet for pupils to celebrate an important chapter in the school’s history.

Belmont Castle Academy, formerly Stifford Primary, had its academy status confirmed earlier this month.

Its new name pays tribute to the former Gothic mansion, Belmont Castle, which stood on the school’s grounds.

Built in 1795, it was demolished to make way for a chalk quarry.

Fantastic. Finally, a school embracing their heritage, not shunning it. There should be more of this, and the people involved should all be very proud.

PS - I'm also very glad it has removed the awful trampoline article from the front spot. From ignorance to a wonderful article that really did put a smile on my face.
