This live event has finished

  • Aveley 3 - 1 Ware
  • Ryman Division One North
  • LIVE from Millfield
  • Just one change to the Aveley team that beat Chatham two weeks ago - Jack Stephenson starts.

East Thurrock United have beaten Tilbury 3-1 in a friendly at Rookery Hill.

And another important result from today. Relegation battlers Redbrigde have come from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with league leaders Maldon and Tiptree! Great result for Grays who now have two games in hand on the league leaders. Could narrow their lead to just three points!

Thank you for joining me today! It's a Thurrock derby on Tuesday night... Tilbury vs Aveley. Should be a cracker!

A routine win in the end for Millers as they beat Ware 3-1.

Two goals from top goalscorer Jordan Cox and a deflected effort from Rashid Kamara see Aveley through.

They go level on points with Heybridge in third - with a game in hand - and close the gap between themselves and second placed borough rivals Grays to four points.

Full match report with reaction from Justin Gardner will be in next weeks Thurrock Gazette!

Free kick right on the edge of the box for Millers. Cross is poor though and now the game really is fizzling out.

Jordan Cox is the club man of the match. Think mine's Rashid Kamara though!

Last minute here at Millfield. Can't see much else happening (famous last words!)

Three minutes added on.

Kamara another who has played well for Aveley. Worked tirelessly and used the ball extremley effectively.

It's to-and-fro here at the moment, not a lot to comment on. Millers probing, but no final ball at the moment. Ware working hard, but not really getting a touch.

Nice defending from Jay Leader. Under pressure from Shaw, he turns on the byline and carries the ball out of defence. Another good performance from the Millers centre half.

Going to need to show some composure now Aveley. Not quite home and dry in this one yet.

Nice play from Shaw as he snatches a goal back for the visitors. He beats Thomas to the ball on the edge of the box, dinks the ball over Foster before heading into an empty net.

GOAL! Aveley 3 - 1 WARE - Tim Shaw 75'

Sellears picks up the ball in space on the right, but despite Burnett being in space in the box, Sellears opts to shoot and it goes wide.

Great chance for Cox as he again beats the Ware defence. He tries to chip Madden, who reads the forward's intentions and palms the ball away.

Cox is replaced now by Ade Cole, looks to be struggling with an injury.

Played very well again today though.

Aveley subs:

Danny Hopkins off, Sheldon Sellears on

Juinor Dadson off, Paul Burnett on.

Ware really struggle in the final third. Foster has hardly had a save to make. Until Standen was sent off, and to an extent still, the midfield are very good. At each end though, they lack quality.

East Thurrock now 3-1 up in friendly against Tilbury

Ware sub now: Josh Bronti replaced by Ryan Fleming

That could be game over then for Ware. It's a really tall order for them now, as if it wasn't before hand.

Oh it's all kicked off and Martin Standen is off. Tough tackle by Standen on Ellis Sands, right on the touchline.

Sands got up, confronted Standen, who raised his hands to Sands face to push him away.

Ref left with little choice but to send Standen off. You can't put your hands to an opposition players face. Foolish from Standen.

Well I was just about to post an update saying that the story of the second half was that neither side were finding the final, incisive ball. But Jordan Cox collected the ball, got in behind the defence with cries for offside turned down.

Cox took the ball on, went round Madden who sprawled to get the ball, but Cox nudged it goalbound and it trickled in to make it 3-0 to Millers. Another for Cox!

GOAL! AVELEY 3 - 0 Ware - Jordan Cox, 54'

It's 1-1 in the East Thurrock vs Tilbury friendly. Cutler drew Tilbury level with a thunderbolt of a strike.

Tim Shaw gets away from Thomas, but hits a shot harmlessly wide, before appealing for a penalty he was never going to get. I'm not sure Thomas even got close enough to him to foul him!

Little of note to comment on so far in this second half so far.

Ware sub: Charlie Moxon off, Alhassan Kamara on.

Second half underway

Aveley and now Ware coming out for the second half

No other scores to bring you today. Largely because games involving the borough's other teams are all off. Though I understand there's a friendly between East Thurrock and Tilbury taking place at Rookery Hill.

Good stuff on the whole from Justin Gardner's men against a pretty poor Ware side. Could be more for the hosts, but a Cox header and a Kamara effort have given Millers the two-goal lead.

Foster in the Aveley goal has had little to do but gather the odd cross. Routine for Millers so far!

Good pressure from Millers, before the ball is laid off to Kamara on the edge of the box who twists and turns to make room for a shot. His effort his well hit but takes a big deflection, flying in past the keeper who had gone the wrong way.

GOAL! AVELEY 2 - 0 Ware - Rashid Kamara, 45'

Referee and linesman consulting now, after what appeared to be a stamp by Stevenson on Cox. Referee tells everyone to calm down and orders a drop ball. Aveley faithful (including Sue, the PA at Aveley) not too happy.

Lovely run down the left by Dadson. Great turn of pace. He gets into the box and shoots but his effort, rifled in at the near post, is saved by Madden. Corner, which Ware just about deal with, after a bit of a scramble that saw Cox have his effort blocked by a defender.

Ware's best chances of the game falls to Standen. He heads at goal, unmarked in the box, but Foster gathers.

The ball's cleared off the line. Great corner by Stephenson is headed down by Cox, and Kamara attempts to flick the ball in with his back to goal. A Ware defender is on the line to clear after the ball evades the keeper.

Goal disallowed for Millers now. Dadson receives the ball in acres of space in the box. He turns his marker before shooting low across goal. Appiah is at the back post to turn in,  but the linesman's flag is up.

Another good header from Cox. He's unmarked on the edge of the six yard box and diverts Hopkins' inch-perfect cross from the left goal wards, but Madden leaps to deny the ball going into the top corner.

Stephenson has been excellent for Aveley in this first half. Aside from his assist, he's working hard and cropping up all over the place.

The pace of these Aveley forwards is causing all sorts of problems. Cox turns on the halfway line and feeds Appiah through, his cross-come-shot misses the far post by an inch, with Dadson unlucky not to connect.

Now they're in full flow, Millers, and Ware are struggling to cope. Cox latches onto a long ball and his poke through is just gathered by Madden in the box. Appiah was looming!

Lovely finish from Cox, as he gets his head on Stephenson'schipped cross from the right, with the ball spinning into the corner. He couldn't miss but it's a lovely move that leads to the goal! That's Cox 16th of the season!

GOAL! AVELEY 1 - 0 Ware - Jordan Cox 19'

After a bright first five minutes, Millers just struggling to get into their rhythm. Ware have been well organised so far.

I saw Ware play Tilbury at Chadfields in September and they were poor. Beaten 6-1 that day. But they've picked up a little since.

Aveley will be sniffing blood though. They can go level on points with third place Heybridge and within four points of second placed Grays with victory today.

Cracking effort from Ware skipper Jon Stevenson as he hits a free kick from 30 yards which goes just over the bar. Think most in the ground (and there's a decent turnout here today) were expecting Stevenson to cross.

Played in low to the near post, but Madden flicks it wide.

Good start to the game, the only non-league match in Thurrock to have survived this week's adverse weather.

Real credit to Craig Johnson who worked on the pitch single-handedly to get the pitch playable. It looks great, too.

Much better from the visitors now. Bronti gets a shot away in the box and it deflects wide for a corner...

Gardner has, as he did against Chatham, taken up a position on the opposite touchlines to the dug outs.

Ware get in their first meaningful cross but Foster does well to claim it in the air.

Ware looking to break their 21st century hoodoo against Aveley. One friendly win in 2010 aside, the Hertfordshire boys, who are struggling in Ryman One North have not been Aveley since the turn of the century.

Good chance for Nesbitt, he collects a quick free kick, and shoots low in the box, forcing Madden into a good save with his feet.

Good start from the hosts.

Early free kick right on the edge of the box for Aveley is hit over the bar by Jacck Stephenson.
