New restaurant opens in Tilbury New restaurant opens in Tilbury

A NEW restaurant has opened its doors in Tilbury.

No.10 Dining, in Civic Square, is serving up a mix of traditional Indian food, and is keen to fill a gap in Tilbury’s restaurant scene.

Owner, Sujit Patel, said: “We kept on hearing comments from local people that there was nowhere to go out in the evening in Tilbury, and during the day people had a choice between the café near the train station, ASDA or McDonalds.

“To this end we looked at ways that we could open a place for people to go all day.

“We did not want to open a fine dining restaurant that served only in evenings, and we wanted to provide a place where we could open during the day.”

The restaurant was officially opened by Thurrock’s Mayor Labour councillor Yash Gupta and Thurrock’s Conservative MP Jackie Doyle-Price.

Ms Doyle-Price said it was a positive thing for the town.

She said: "We are all worried about what will happen to the high street.

“The key is businesses like this; it is about making our high streets more attractive, and this should be an inspiration to our other high streets in the borough.

“There are too many people who talk Thurrock down and nowhere more than Tilbury.

“However, it is becoming an increasingly popular place to live.

“The community is changing, the port which has been here 125 years is growing and the future couldn't look better.

“We need to make the most of the wonderful place Tilbury is."

I'm not surprised to see Jackie Doyle-Price there..... she'd go to the opening of a bag of crisps if there was a photo opportunity!

Tilbury's Restaurant Scene? Didn't know it had one. I'll be giving the Champs-Elysees a miss then and no doubt your reporter will be writing some features on RM18's cafe society very shortly.

In all seriousness, like the owner, I too have also travelled to East London and Southall for authentic Indian food. (I am White, British.) I wish Mr. Patel every success with his business venture and will be visiting soon.

Good on them. The Patels have been in Civic Square for at least the last 30 years (my brother went to school with the owner!) Hope people will use it.
