Bin collections called off amid safety fears

NO rubbish will be collected today as icy conditions lead to concern for safety.

Waste and recycling staff will instead be working on Thurrock Council's snow plan.

A spokesman for the authority said: " Ice and snow on side roads and pavements means Thurrock's waste and recycling collections due for Monday have been suspended.

"Although all main routes are clear and open, safety concerns for the public and staff have forced the decision.

"Waste and recycling staff will be redeployed to the snow plan which is available for inspection through Thurrock Council’s website (www.thurrock.gov.uk) and clicking on the Ready for Winter icon."

The council is set to decide about tomorrow's collections in the morning,

Well they'd better think of something quick because the pavements are gonna be icy all week.
How come, when for the posties, paperboys, delivery drivers, indeed the residents of these side roads it's business as usual, it's only the pampered ballerinas on the dust carts who don't have to fulfill their duties?

The dustmen are having a high old time in grays town throwing snowballs while they are clearing the high street. Years ago council staff such as dustment and other manuak workers went out clearing pavemens and gritting the pavements. These day they won't because it isn't on there job description.

Yes, once again the footpaths are cleared for the convenience of the council office staff only. The routes between the offices & the station, plus along the high St. (so they can get their lunch!) are clear. Everyone else can break their necks on untreated paths in the rest of Thurrock of course.

Seems a bit pathetic to me. Our collections are erratic anyway and we are often missed out.

It wont be long before they wont collect in the rain as that's a bit slippery, or if its sunny in case of sunburn.

Here we go again, lets roll out the same old excuse when it snows, they are getting pathetic now, the snow has melted in most places and the roads are not inaccessible.

Grow a backbone and get out there and do your job

so what are we meant to do with our rubbish then??? Let it build up and build up attracting rats etc.... do't suppose we will get any rebate on council tax for not getting the service we pay for.
