Council says its ready as snow arrives in Thurrock

THURROCK Council staff are on standby as the snow begins to settle on the ground in the borough.

Up to 10cm of snow is forecast to fall today and over the weekend, and the authority said it has plans in place to deal with the cold weather.

If the forecast snow is still an issue next week and affects waste and recycling collections, the news will be placed on the council’s website and twitter feed and staff will be redirected toward clearing busy areas, as in the Snow Plan.
 


A spokesman said: “Thurrock Council has plans to deal with cold weather and snow and it has been gritting the roads for the past eight consecutive days as temperatures dropped close to or below zero.

"Staff are on standby if needed.
 

“If the forecast snow is still an issue next week and affects waste and recycling collections, the news will be placed on the council’s website and staff will be redirected toward clearing busy areas, as in the Snow Plan.


“Schools have their own plans to deal with closure announcements, although most do inform the council and details are again placed on the council’s website.


“Social care staff are also briefed on how do deal with cold weather and snow.”
