VOLUNTEERS are needed for a new buddy scheme helping dementia sufferers.
The Mickey Payne Memorial Foundation, a Benfleet based charity which works to develop the capacity and skill of relatives or carers of those with dementia, is launching a new scheme at Thurrock Hospital.
The hospital, in Long Lane, Grays, has been chosen by the charity for the pilot as it specialises in the care of people with dementia.
The buddy scheme is entirely voluntary and involves individuals befriending dementia sufferers, whose family are not around or not available all the time, by visiting them a few times a week.
The idea is to go along to hospital with the patient to provide support in the form of a friendly and recognisable face.
If you would like more information about the scheme, call the charity’s Caroline Dearson on 07539567553.
