Free buses for the unemployed

PEOPLE looking for work will be able to get free travel on bus routes subsidised by Thurrock Council.

The council is taking part in the national Bus For Jobs scheme, being run by the major bus operators and the Greener Journeys Campaign, throughout January.

The scheme aims to make it easier for unemployed people to attend job interviews and other appointments.

The card enables the holder to travel free on most bus services run by First, Arriva, Stagecoach, Go-Ahead and National Express buses, and some run by smaller operators, on presentation of the card.

Isn't job seeking and associated expenses supposed to come out of their job seekers allowance?

I can see this being abused as unfortunately not everyone on benefits are interested in employment.

Hopefully I'm wrong but I don't think I am :(

The fares for people seeking employment is not being extended to those on the Work Programme i.e. those most in need. Discrimination at work!

Great idea! Lets give them more benefits.
Worse thing is that there are those (the majority) out of work that try day and night to find some work, any work. But this will be abused by those who have no intention of ever working.
So basically the government is taking money from the disabled and elderly and giving it to those who want to abuse the system.
Brilliant idea! Not!
