MEN in Thurrock are being urged to warm up their vocal chords and head down to the High House Production Park in Purfleet.

The Royal Opera House is holding a men only taster session for its Thurrock Community Chorus on Monday, January 21 at 7.15pm in the complex’s barns.

The aim of the taster session is to add some bass and tenor voices to the chorus.

A spokesman for the chorus said: ”If you have ever seen Gareth Malone’s singing plumbers and thought you would like to sing too, or if you would like a new hobby and some new friends, come along to the taster session and meet some of the Thurrock Community Chorus members.

“Perhaps you have been told you can’t sing? The Royal Opera House wants to prove you can.

“The Thurrock Community Chorus is open to everyone. No previous singing experience is necessary, just a willingness to learn and an enthusiasm to join in.”

Led by director Jeremy Haneman, the chorus is made up of residents in the borough who have come together over the last two years to celebrate their shared love of singing.

The group, which has more than 120 members now, regularly performs at venues in Thurrock, and has also had the honour of performing at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden, London.

Royal Opera House Education in Thurrock has been offering innovative and creative projects and programmes in schools, colleges and across the community for the past five years now.

More than 100 schools in the Thames Gateway area have taken part in Royal Opera House creative projects.
