A COUNCILLOR has pledged to stand up for Aveley as three separate planning applications threaten to bring 2,000 new residents into the village.

The Gazette revealed last week plans have been submitted to build 500 new homes of the former London Fire Brigade Sport and Social Club in Purfleet Road.

If granted permission, this, coupled with the 340 homes planned for the bypass, and plans to build 36 new homes on the Old Washmill site, could see more than 850 new homes built .

Tory cllr Maureen Pearce said: “Aveley is currently a wonderful village, with a traditional High Street surrounded by a range of homes for families.

“Like many longstanding residents I am concerned that cramming in over 850 new homes will ruin the traditional character and appeal of Aveley.

“Altogether these developments could mean as many as 2,000 new people living in Aveley.

“Our roads will be subjected to more heavy traffic and our schools and doctors are already under pressure.

“In the 18 months I have been a local councillor, I've seen proposals that would have more than doubled the size of Aveley and people are clear that these developments are inappropriate in site, size and scale. I fully intend to stand up for their views.”
