Tasmin Little
VIOLIN virtuoso Tasmin Little is coming to Thurrock next week.
The internationally-known musician, who has played with many of the world’s great orchestras including the Royal Philharmonic, the Seattle Symphony and the European Union Chamber Orchestra, will be working with some of the borough’s talented young string players.
Following her master-class, Tasmin, who is an ambassador for the Prince’s Foundation for Children and the Arts, will lead a concert at the Thameside Theatre at 7pm on Saturday, January 12.
Cllr Oliver Gerrish, Thurrock Council’s portfolio holder for education, said: “I’d like to congratulate the music team on their success in persuading such a world-renowned performer to work with our talented young people.
“The aim of the new Thurrock Music Education Hub is to bring the highest possible standard of music engagement to the young people of this area and we are certainly doing that.
“Ms Little will be taking an ensemble master-class for students in the hub and some solo master-classes for a small number who have shown particular commitment and shown potential to develop into exceptional musicians.
“I am looking forward to the time when today’s Thurrock music students will be travelling the country offering master-classes of their own.”
Tasmin was awarded the OBE in last year’s Queen’s Jubilee Honours for her services to classical music.
She is a Fellow of the Guildhall of Music and Drama, and president of the European String Teachers Association.
In 2009, she received a prestigious Gold Badge Award for services to music.
Her career has taken her to every continent, and in addition to her solo performances, she has also directed a number of orchestras.
Tickets for the show are £8 and are available from the Thameside box office on 0845 3005264.
