A MAN was robbed and stabbed in both legs as he walked across a field in Tilbury.

The 23-year-old, from Grays, was walking through a field adjacent to St Chad’s Road when the attack happened, around 4.30pm on Saturday, December 29.

He was approached by an unknown number of people, who struck him on the head, causing him to fall down.

As he lay on the floor, they beat him and stabbed him in both legs before stealing his mobile phone.

He is currently in a stable condition at Basildon Hospital.

Police are urging anyone who saw the attack or has any information about it to come forward.

Investigating officer, Dc Ben Griffiths, said: "This is a very unusual robbery, given the venue and the circumstances.

“The victim has been unable to tell us where exactly he was attacked so we’re looking for witnesses who would have seen this assault on Saturday afternoon.”

Police were contacted by staff at the hospital after the man was brought in by paramedics.

Anyone with information is asked to contact detectives at Grays police station on 101.
