CRASHES on the M25 and A13 caused chaos during morning rush hour on Wednesday.

The M25 was closed clockwise between junction 31 and junction 30 following a five vehicle pile up just after 7am.

The road was closed as six casualties, two seriously injured, were treated and damage to the highway repaired.

At 9.30am, police said they expected the road to be closed for a further four hours while investigation work was carried out and urged motorists to avoid the area.

Queues stretched back for several miles down the M25 as the Dartford Tunnel was closed.

Two lorries and three cars were involved in the collision.

On Monday afternoon, a crash on the same stretch of the M25, involving two lorries, meant the road was closed until the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Another accident on the A13 at North Stifford involving one vehicle forced the Londonbound carriageway of the road to close for two hours on Wednesday morning, adding to rush hour misery.

The accident caused tail backs to the Stanford-Le-Hope junction before the road was re-opened shortly after 8.30am.
