Man attacked in robbery bid

A YOUNG man was pushed and punched in the face by a would-be thief who wanted to steal his mobile phone.

The incident happened in Scratton Road, in Stanford-le-Hope, at about 8.50pm on Sunday.

The victim, a local man aged in his 20s, was walking home when he was pushed from behind and ordered to hand over his mobile phone.

An Essex Police spokesman said: “The attacker then twice punched the victim in the face before running off when he saw another man approaching the scene.

“The victim was then able to run off to raise the alarm.”

Police are urging the third man to come forward as they believe he was an important witness, but left the scene before officers arrived.

Anyone with information should contact the Grays target offender team on 101, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

Poor bloke. Hope he wasn't to badly hurt and that he is able to move on without fear of going out walking. Hope they catch the scum.
