Hope for broadband boost in villages

THE East Thurrock MP has moved to ensure the borough’s semi-rural areas are included in any super-fast broadband plans.

Speaking in the House of Commons, Stephen Metcalfe asked the Minister from the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs whether the rural areas of Thurrock will be in line for the broadband.

Richard Benyon, the minister, said the villages should apply in the third round of the rural community broadband fund, which runs until January.

Mr Metcalfe said: “It is vital semi-rural areas are not ignored. I will do everything I can to ensure Bulphan, Orsett and Horndon-on-the-Hill are included.”
