Remembrance Day events set for borough

A HOST of Remembrance Day services are to be held as people in the borough remember those killed during wars.
This Sunday, November 4, Purfleet Heritage Centre is holding its annual Remem-brance Day service.
The centre, in Centurion Way, will open at 10am for guests, including mayor Yash Gupta and MP Jackie Doyle-Price.
A service will be held at the War Memorial at St Stephens Church, opposite the Royal Hotel, at 10.40am.
Orsett is marking the occasion on Saturday, November 10, at the war memorial in Rectory Road, from 11am.
On Remembrance Day itself, Sunday, November 11, there is a service at St Michael’s Church in High Street, Aveley, at 10am, followed by an act of remembrance at the war memorial.
St Mary the Virgin Church, in Church Road, Bulphan, will hold a service at 10am.
The Chadwell St Mary event will be at St Mary’s Church, in Linford Road, from 10.45am.
In East Tilbury, gather at the Bata War memorial, in Princess Margaret Road, at 10.45am.
In Grays, gather at the War Memorial, in the High Street, at 11am. From 10.20am there will be a procession, starting at the Thameside complex in Orsett Road, to the war memorial.
Horndon-on-the-Hill will have a service at the war memorial at 10.45am, continuing in St Peter and St Paul Church, in Orsett Road.
At 10.45am there will be a service at the Former Ardale site in North Stifford, led by Dennis Brockhurst, chairman of the residents’ group.
In South Ockendon there will be a service in St Nicholas Church, on The Green, at 10am, followed by a service of remembrance at 10.50am.
In Stanford-le-Hope, a service will be held from 10.30am at the war memorial at The Green, and in Tilbury pay your respects from 10.15am at the town centre war memorial.
Little Thurrock councillors will lay wreaths at the war memorial, in Turps Corner, at 9am.
A service will also be held in Chafford Hundred. Meet at Warren Primary School, in Gilbert Road, at 3pm, then go to the memorial, in Kershaw Close.
