Residents call for crossing at busy road

MORE than 600 people have signed a petition calling for a pedestrian crossing to be installed at a busy road in South Ockendon.

The petition, for South Road, was presented to Thurrock’s full council by Labour ward councillor Charlie Curtis at the meeting last night.

Cllr Curtis said: “I use this road everyday myself and I have seen so many near misses.

“The road is used by all kinds of people, there are people getting off buses, children going to and from school.

“This petition is supported by all three local councillors.

“We’re always talking about keeping our children safe, how much longer are we going to wait?”
