Burglar 10, and drug offender, 11, on list but youth crime is down

MORE than 5,500 crimes were committed by youngsters aged under 17 across Essex last year, according to new figures.

The report shows there were 41 racially aggravated assaults, and the youngest offender to be caught was a ten-year-old, for burglary.

It was also revealed an 11-year-old was arrested for drugs offences, and a 12-year-old was arrested for robbery.

The annual figures were released by the Youth Justice Board.

It was an improvement on last year when there were 6,038 crimes carried out by youngsters, according to statistics.
