THURROCK has been targeted by immigration officers as a hotbed of illegal immigrants and financial fraud.
Officers from the UK Border Agency based at Stansted have been enforcing a crackdown in the region codenamed Operation Tumion.
"Intelligence has also revealed a significant connection between illegal working and financial fraud, particularly in the Thurrock area."
Acting Chief Immigration Officer David Butler
The operation aims to act on intelligence received, visit premises using immigration search warrants, and then secure, identify and arrest the named immigration offenders.
Officers search premises for any evidence that could help them secure a prosecution, for example false documents. Any money that may have been obtained through crime will also be recovered by the officers during the visit.
Acting Chief Immigration Officer David Butler said: "Operation Tumion has already identified over 1,000 false documents being used in the area to gain employment.
"Intelligence has also revealed a significant connection between illegal working and financial fraud, particularly in the Thurrock area.
"Convictions obtained from this operation range from 6 to 12 months."
Among the officers' success stories was a raid in Manor Road, Grays, on May 7 when two Nigerian men were detained. They were found to be overstayers in the country and were also suspected of working illegally. Consequently, they have been detained in Harwich ready for removal from the UK.
Other raids in the region have found a Ghanaian man was arrested on suspicion of working in breach of his visa, two Ugandan men were found to have overstayed their visas, whilst a further Ugandan man was revealed to be a failed asylum seeker.
In addition, one male overstayer from Tanzania and one failed male asylum seeker of Somalian nationality were discovered. Those six were also detained and the UK Border Agency will be taking steps to enforce their removal from the country.
Operation Tumion is ongoing and further arrests are expected in the future.
Anyone who suspects that illegal workers are being employed at a business in the area should contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, which can be done anonymously.
Employers who would like advice on what steps they need to take to avoid employing illegal workers can visit www.bia.homeoffice.gov.uk/employingmigrants or contact the UK Border Agency Employers Helpline on 0845 010 6677.

Does that mean the government are wearing those blinded man's" glasses, and they are making everything appear darker than it actually is? I don't think so.

It's certainly a British trait to be very vocal with moaning, but not actually be part of the solution or assist those that are... The country is still 95% "white" but through the "blinded man's" glasses you insist upon wearing, everything appears darker than it actually is. A return to the horrific practice of "Necklacing" where a tyre soaked in gasoline Is put around the neck. Targets are largely Zimbabwean immigrants, South Africans however South Africans, accuse Zimbabweans of fuelling the high crime rate causing high unemployment and taking scarce dwellings and jobs. all-Africa.com report that Nigerians, have been attacked and other immigrant groups have also been attacked. Common denominator? high immigration, high unemployment, immigrants taking scarce dwellings, immigrants taking scarce jobs. This lot must all be discrinatory racist fascist Nazi's. When was the british people ever asked if they wanted mass immigration?
People are the same all over the world. When they see a large influx of people from outside of their own country they want to know why, particularly when those people have arrived illegally. Millions of people have arrived here from Africa and if this government wants to restore any confidence that they have control over our borders, that needs to be reversed by a large extent and yes that does mean deportation as well as stopping further illegals arriving here in the future. Until some kind of stability is returned to the communities that people have lived in, probably for most of their lives, people will not trust a word any of the main parties say. When a community is changed drastically in a short space of time without any official explanation then there will be suspicion that all is not what it seems. That is what is happening in Thurrock and neither the local conservatives on the council or our illustrious Labour MP's are willing to come up with an explanation. The reason being is because they don't want you to know that it is all part of their great plan to "integrate" millions of people into communities outside of London. In doing this they free up valuable housing and land for the developers to get hold of. When both the Tories and Labour stop trying to hide this and stop actively trying to deceive us then people will have a real choice in how they shoud cast their votes. You either agree with mass, unchecked immigration or you don't. They should stop hiding behind a huge pack of lies. Hazel Blears should scrap all policies relating to diversity and cohesion that has been forced onto all public bodies at the cost of billions of pounds. it is a complete waste of money as nobody outside of these bodies takes a blind bit of notice and probably don't even know it exists. People aren't going to accept forced integration and that doesn't matter whether they are white, black or sky blue pink. South Africa is a prime example, where people are now being killed, and they are not even different in colour or culture. So what chance does this government think they have in this country. Get rid of the TGDC as this is the vehicle that is driving the move of people from London to all of the Thames gateway. Tis development will not benefit the local communities one bit. It is for the benefit of London and the people that live there. Thurrock will be swamped with tens of Thousands of additional people that it cannot cope with and life will become unbearable. The tensions that exist in London at the moment will come with it and they will be magnified beacuse they will affect local communities where people aren't used to seeing and experiencing the hings that happen in London. It needs to stop now.
