THE work of a former Thurrock student and teacher is included in an award-winning new collection of short stories, poetry and memoirs.

Author and poet Sally East, formerly of Chadwell St Mary, isnow resident in Berkshire.

She is a former pupil of Torells School and Palmer's Sixth Form College and a teacher at Herringham Infants School has previously had work published in an anthology and on the internet and has been successful in writing competitions.

Now some of her work has found a place in MS Talent Volume 1' published by Jasmine Cottage Publishing which has been awarded the coveted David St John Thomas Charitable Trust Community Cup for fundraising work.

Founded by David St John Thomas to encourage good writing, the David St John Thomas Charitable Trust was funded with money raised from the sale of David & Charles, the publishing house.

All of Volume 1's contributors either have multiple sclerosis themselves or are closely connected to someone with MS.

Despite its unusually high cover price of £16.50 the project has been a huge success, - and donations matching gross proceeds going to UK charities supporting people with multiple sclerosis.

Volume 2 is now in course of preparation and the publishers say they will be delighted to accept contributions of original, previously unpublished short stories (2,000 words maximum).

Contributions may be emailed to mstalent@btconnect.com during May and early June 2008. Volume 2 is due for publication in November 2008.
