ACCOUNTANCY may have a reputation for being boring, but it appeared to excite borough students at a recent event.
Eighteen students of accountancy at Palmer's College in Grays and ten pupils from the Gateway Academy worked together in an Accounting Masterclass Day at Palmer's organised by Young Enterprise.
They had the chance to find out about chartered accountancy through activities such as ice breakers and preparing group presentations, the best of which were awarded prizes.
They also looked in depth at a finance case study and were given valuable information on accountancy and finance careers.
Two guest speakers, Noel Kelleway from Richard Keen of Basildon and Michael Anthony from another accountancy firm, Lambert Chapman of Chelmsford were on hand to answer students' questions about the work they do.
Palmer's student Mary Ariyibi said: "The day was really useful, inspiring and encouraging for anyone thinking about a possible career in accountancy."
Accountancy teacher at the college, Karen Storer said: "The day was a resounding success, it was really motivating for the students to be able to interact with real accountants and be made aware of the exciting career opportunities in this field.
"It also enabled Palmer's College and the Gateway Academy to develop closer links."
