MEMBERS of Thurrock's growing Eastern European communities are being invited to find out how they can improve their computer skills.

A drop in event is being held on Friday, May 23 from 7pm to 9pm. at the Beehive, Voluntary & Community Resource Centre, West Street, Grays.

Those attending can find out more about the GET ON 2 GET ON' community learning bus which has10 computers and internet access. If there is enough interest then free computer courses can be organised.

People can come along at anytime and there is no need to book in advance. They will also be able to use the internet and computers, find out about other learning available and discover how to get more involved in community activities such as their Community Forum. There will be free refreshments for those attending.

The event is part of a six month project led by ngage and Thurrock Adult Community College to raise the profile of Get On 2 Get On', promote learning and encourage community involvement throughout Thurrock.

Claire Downes the project worker said we are also taking the bus out and about throughout Thurrock over the next few months so people in most areas will have the chance to get involved. Computer courses on the bus are free and on your doorstep so take them up while you can!'.

Yes lets teach those Eastern Europeans to use computers and then take them on for a minimal wage while our own people are out of work. This is just another leftie waste of tax payers money. What would happen if they announced they they were going to help the white working class instead, Mr Joe Public and his loyal band would be screaming racism as loud as their little voices could be heard.

Whatever happened to the old saying 'charity begins at home'

"Our people" could get off their lazy backsides, stop watching Jeremy Kyles and go down to the Job Centres ...they would find that their are courses available to them too!

Actually my son has tried to access these courses, but because we as his parents earnaround£100.00 a year too much he does'nt qualify.

Yes I think you'll find that these courses aren't available to anyone who hasn't been unemployed for more than 6 months and then there's a waiting list. Not all of "our people" are wasters. Probably about the same amount as the eastern europeans and africans you see walking about Grays all day getting just as drunk as the locals.

But lets do them all a favour and give them free training courses.

Yet another great idea to promote social cohesion. Alienate the local people once more in favour of people that have just arrived on our doorstep to suck what they can out of our economy to send back home.

What a fantastic place this country is if you're from abroad.

So I take it that's what you have done - I do know what its like - we've scrimped and scraped all our lives to enable our children to have the training/further education necessary to further their careers when they haven't been entitled to grants etc - but we have done it - and gone without in order to do so!

The more you do for this country the less you get out of it. Labour looks after its voters first, immigrants and benefits claimers.

Yes mags we are going without just as my parents did.If these services are to be free they should be free for everyone, not just eastern europeans.

It does seem rather 'unfair' that free computer lessons are going to be given to Eastern Europeans when so many people in Thurrock are having to pay for further education etc.. On a different matter my neighbours are waiting to hear what help (if any) they will receive for their mum who is 80 and sadly in need of some - the delay??? This lady worked all her life until she retired as did her daughter and son-in-law. They need help now to care for her and yet there seems to be none. It's sad when you think that between the 3 of them (plus their son is working) they have paid tax and NI over the years. I'm not against people being offered help - but surely if these people come here to live - and work - they should have some basic skills already? Surely these people don't come here for an easy ride................
