The Devonshire Road shower....
WHAT is it with that shower who live in the vicinity of Devonshire Road on the Chafford Hundred!
When it comes to the thorny issue of the 7.5 weight restriction, illegally imposed by the way, all logic flies out of the window.
Just to pick a few points: 1, They refer to living in a highly populated area and it
being the children's main route to school; 2, Houses and flats being a couple of feet
from the main road; 3, Traffic going into Hogg Lane causing congestion at the Treacle
Mine Roundabout; 4, The constant reference to HGVs speeding or thundering past.
Logic dictates that the safest way for a HGV is along Devonshire Road. The alternative route is along London Road - where the houses and flats are really a few feet from the main road. This is a highly populated area and is also a main route to school.
What do you think happens when rush hour traffic gets to Harris's roundabout? It has the same problems as the Treacle mine roundabout. In the past month due to the Dartford Bridge being closed owing to high winds traffic as far
back as Grays and encompassing all the West Thurrock-Purfleet-Lakeside area was at a
standstill.
Traffic wishing to go Southend-bound could at least go up Devonshire Road and pick up from Treacle Mine. It's ludicrous to suggest Devonshire Road, which incidentally
has no houses or flats on half of it and on the other half they are only on one side
of the road, is not suitable to take HGVs off London Road.
Just compare the two.
The problems you indicated are replicated ten times along London Road, They would like the quote "Peaceful life".
Incidentally is it nesseccary to keep referring to HGVs for speeding or thundering up devonshire Road? There has been several accidents along Devonshire Road, one unfortunately involving a death, as mentioned by your letter writers from
Devonshire Road but I would like to point out that this was due to speeding cars not
HGVs who were the cause of it.
Your correspondent who says the HGVs who "thunder past" his house causing damage
needs, I suggest, to contact a surveyor and not a newspaper!

Calm down Kinky, no need to start calling these people a shower is there? Just because they want a bit of peace & quiet. Are you trying to start a turf war between the people of London Rd and Devonshire? As far as I am concerned I'd like HGV's banned from every road, they are the worst drivers on the road.

ep oviously stands for ''extreme plank'',without the hgv deliveries there would be no food in the shops or petrol in the garages, everyone would starve, its common sense to allow trucks to use the safest least populated route.

why should`nt hgv`s etc use devonshire road.they use other roads without problem,or is it due to the fact that some people living there see chafford 100 as a special place to be hgv clear

Spartacus, dont let these Chafford idiots upset you - after all these are the same planks that didnt have the brains to read a train timetable before spending hundreds of thousands on their rabbit hutches and now constantly moan about only having two trains an hour to London! Looks like some of them didnt even notice the road outside their flat either.

i don't let them upset me,all the arguments they use show what fools they are, along london road the trucks really are a couple of feet from peoples homes, far more people live along london road than devonshire road and far more school children walk along london road than devonshire road.they think they are posher than london road and because of that they deserve special treatment.

The problems are
1. They keep building more and more on Chav 100. If I'm correct they built the flats that come directly onto Devonshire Road when it was open and being used for heavy traffic. Well I'm sorry if you move somewhere and it already exists, reel your neck in.
2. The last council missed a huge trick. They could have had a major road going from South Stifford/West Thurrock to the A13 and via Lakeside and built adequate feeder roads and even Devonshire Road should have been dual carriageway with an access into the Askew Farm area. But no, that was too straightforward for them to contemplate.
