Police arrest 11 suspected illegal immigrants
ELEVEN suspected illegal immigrants were arrested in a series of dawn raids.
Police and officers from the Border and Immigration Agency (BIA) swooped on 12 houses across Thurrock and Southend in the early hours of this morning in a joint operation.
They searched the properties in Grays, Tilbury, Purfleet and Westcliff before arresting 11 people - six women and five men - including 10 thought to be from Nigeria and one from Portugal.
All of the people were arrested on suspicion of immigration offences including illegal entry into the UK and illegally working in the country.
Police hailed the operation a success and are now interviewing all of the suspects.
Inspector Nick Morris said: "There is always a lot of planning involved in the execution of these dawn raids.
"So, to have arrested these suspects in an efficient manner is a satisfactory start to the process.
"We are now entering the new phase of the operation which will see us working even closer with out BIA partners during the interview stage as i'm sure there will be a criminal element to these immigration matters."
Police arrested a 22-year-old Nigerian woman in Westcliff, three Nigerian women - one 28, one 30 and a 42-year-old in Thurrock, a 30-year-old Portugese woman in Thurrock and five Nigerian men - aged 27, 29, 49, 52 and 32 - also in Thurrock.
All of the 11 suspects were taken to Rayleigh police station where they are still being interviewed.

I'll lay £1000 they don't get deported. It's alright catching them and making a big song and dance about it, but where does it leave us tax payers....out of pocket as usual and the immigrants will still be here!! Don't kid us. 11 immigrants is a very small tip of a very large ice berg!
