SOUTHEND designers will take centre stage at a fashion show this week raising money for Cancer Research UK.

Tomorrow will see designer Francesca Smith run the event at the Kursaal, where a catwalk show will showcase the talents of several designers, as well as local businesses and performances from dance groups, cheerleaders and singers.

The event will be hosted by performer James Moore, a familiar face to many after appearing in shows with the Leigh Operatic and Dramatic Society.

He has just returned from a year in New York at a drama school, and he may even throw in a couple of numbers himself.

“I would love to be able to raise as much money as I can,” says Francesca, who will be showcasing some of her own designs, too. The event will showcase many talented designers who have grown out of Southend, as well as Abbie Smith, who will be showing her third collection at the age of 13!

“Local businesses will also be involved, including Buddha Boutique and Insert Coin Clothing, both based in Southend.

“On top of that, there will be exciting performaces from Essex Stars Cheerleaders, Centre Stage School of Dance and several singers.

“Not only will it be a fantastic show, but we will have a fashion market, where the audience will be able to purchase goods from the designers.”

Francesca is hoping to have a raffle with top prizes on offer – including two front-row tickets to an X Factor live show.

The event is at the Kursaal, Eastern Esplanade, Southend, on Thursday, June 21, from 7pm. Tickets are £10.
