Homecoming theatre show for Snowboy

SOUTH Essex’s king of Latin funk percussion, Snowboy, is bringing his band, Latin Section to the Palace Theatre, Westcliff, at the weekend.

The Hadleigh musician – real name Mark Cotgrove – will be in town for a night of Afro-Cuban jazz and salsa rhythms this Sunday.

It’s a rare theatre gig for an outfit more used to playing clubs, but Snowboy is sure there’ll be plenty of leeway for dancing.

He says: “The thing is it is just such a classy venue.

“It’s a beautiful, traditional theatre, and the stage is so close to the audience. I just think it’s going to be a great experience for us and for people who’ve never heard that kind of music before.”

Snowboy is hoping for a mixed audience, and says his music seems to hold a strong appeal for all sorts of different people. “My music seems to appeal to all different kinds of generations,” he says. “For people who come to see my band regularly, it will be a different experience for them.

“I don’t play locally very often. The gig means a lot to me. I have played a lot theatres, but never anywhere like the Palace.

“We’ll do it traditionally , with two sets and an interval, and probably something in the foyer, too.”
