Thurrock Retired Teachers' Association

10:29am Thursday 2nd July 2009

THURROCK RETIRED TEACHERS' ASSOCIATION THE June meeting was held at the Masonic Lodge in Lenthall Avenue, Grays, on Friday, June 18.

After a welcome from president Audrey Haines, the business part of the meeting followed.

Members were sad to hear of the death of former member Joan Hooker. A reminder was given about the meeting time for the forthcoming river trip on the Pocahontas.

In May, members held their summer lunch at the Riverview Restaurant at Thurrock Technical College.

Today’s meeting was a social event – no speaker, but a chance for members to chat together, to take part in the the raffle and attempt to complete another of those diabolical quizzes that a certain member manages to unearth from somewhere to confound us all. It was all good fun and the morning raised over £50 for St Luke’s Hospice.

Next month’s meeting will be on July 17 at the Masonic Hall at 10.15am, when Rita Cox will talk about the reconstruction of the Endeavour. Former teachers who worked in, or live in Thurrock will be very welcome.
