Bulphan WI

WE found ourselves at another unusual venue for our June meeting – Upminster Windmill! We were given guided tours by excellent volunteer guides, climbed all the way up to the top, admired the new sail recently fitted, marvelled at the advanced engineering used all those years ago and heard about the families who owned and worked the mill.

We then held our meeting on the grass in the shadow of the mill, with biscuits and soft drinks.

It was a different and very interesting meeting.

A group of members has visited the recycling centre at Rainham, which they found useful and informative.

We will book another visit during the school holidays so all who wish to go can have the chance.

Maggie Stancombe, who gave us a taster of keep fit recently, has agreed to provide a short course of keep-fit during the summer holidays.

It will be on Tuesdays from 7.30pm to 8.30p.m. at Bulphan School, from July 21 to August 25, £15 for 6-week course.

All ages, sizes and abilities are welcome and individual needs catered for. We are in the village hall for our meeting on July 8, when Tony Curtis will show slides and tell us about his Andes and Amazon adventure. Visitors are welcome.

Our August meeting will be a mystery outing, car treasure hunt and picnic! Please bring a chair or picnic blanket, your own drink and a plate of food to share at our mystery destination. Fill cars up, solve the clues and enjoy a meeting at an unusual venue! 7.30pm from the village hall.

Anyone is welcome to join us on our coach outing to Hampton Court Wednesday, September 2, 9.15am from the village hall. £12 for the coach (entrance extra).

If you wish to join any of our outings or activities, call Janet on 01268 543214 or Monica on 01375 891002.
