AT our June meeting a warm welcome was given to the members, a visitor, and especially to those members who had been absent due to illness.
Barbara Harris gave a report on the WI AGM she had recently attended at the Royal Albert Hall, where the resolution about Government increasing funding in research to halt the decline in honey bees was carried with a 99.4 per cent majority.
There had been many speakers at the AGM, including Maureen Lipman, Eve Pollard and Richard Stilgoe.
One of our members who belongs to a local drama group told us how their recent production at the Thameside Theatre has won six awards.
Our WI will be manning a bric-a-brac stall at the forthcoming summer fun day which is being organised by Aveley Village Forum.
Our speaker this month was Mary Bartlam who showed us some of her large collection of patchwork quilts, many of which were Victorian or very old, and explained some of the social history that inspired them.
We have outings planned to Lee-on-Solent to visit a former member, an evening trip to the Magic Circle venue, and to the British Legion poppy factory.
Our July meeting is our birthday party, with guests from other WIs in the Thames Group.
