PUPILS at a Grays infant school have raised nearly £2,000 for Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Linda Catton, headteacher of Stifford Clays Infants, Whitmore Avenue, said: "It all started after a representative from the hospital told the children at a special assembly about the wide range of medical care and expertise offered by there.

"The children decided to do something and held a sponsored picture challenge where they had to find, name and cut out or draw pictures that matched letters on a grid."

Sponsorship flowed in from families and friends and the children raised a magnificent £1,922.76 - a one-off record for the school.

Mrs Catton added: "I am always amazed at what our school can achieve and this event was no exception. I am delighted that our community have contributed so much to a worthwhile cause."
