SEVENTIES style is back with a vengeance and has brought its distinctive flares, wedges and bright colours back to almost every high street store.

Angela Poplett, Lakeside’s personal shopper, offers some top tips for making the most of the trend.

“If you need to buy a new pair of trousers, denim or corduroy have to be your first options this season. Pick a pair that’s high-waisted and tight across the hip and bottom.

"A good pair should skim your curves all the way down, getting wider and wider until it reaches the floor. Lakeside’s Next stocks a perfect pair in baby cord. Wear these with the highest shoes you can handle.

“If you’d rather opt for a skirt, 70s style is all about A-line.

"Again, denim has to be your first choice and ones with buttons down the front are so in style.

"Dorothy Perkins and Oasis should be your first stops. Wear it with a floaty or frilly lace top and a mid to low heel for the best silhouette.

“You won’t be able to miss the wedges and chunky heels that are back.

"As we’re entering the spring season, opt for an open-toe style for an extra feminine touch. Peacocks at Lakeside has a great value pair with an on-trend floral pattern in stock now.

“To accessorise, invest in a leather bag and chunky wooden jewellery worn in as many layers as you can manage.

"If you’ve got beautiful long locks, you’re guaranteed to look great in a big floppy hat (Topshop has my current favourite) so make sure you wear one with heaps of confidence.”
