The older readers among you may remember the old British Telecom ad vert where Bob Hoskins’ famous gravelly voice reminded us “it’s good to talk”.

It is an excuse I am quick to use whenever my friends claim I talk too much!

“Talk is cheap” we are often told, as if to denigrate it somehow and make it seem less valuable that other more modern forms of communication.

Texts and e-mails are quicker and more convenient, of course, but even though I am using my trusty Mac to write this to you, I’d much rather talk to you and tell you personally.

It really is good to talk so thank God for pubs and clubs and parties and barbies and gatherings where people can actually spend time talking to other people.

What a drab world it would be if we only communicated by screen!

God is heartily in favour of talking you know.

The fourth book of the New Testament starts with “In the beginning was the Word…” and the first book in the whole Bible begins similarly “In the beginning God…” as it describes how God made things just by speaking a word.

I believe He still speaks today and He longs for us to speak to Him.

It’s what we in the business call “prayer” – conversation with God.

Drop me a line at Gof4God@aol.com if you have some good prayers or have had some good answers.

And if prayer is not your thing, well why not give it a go?

Anytime, anywhere, and any place is suitable to “have a word”.

There’s no roaming costs, no minimum contract and no tariff!

And where God is concerned it really is “good to talk”! – JOHN.
