THURROCK WRITERS' CIRCLE

THIS month’s speaker was Leila Merriman, who came to give members of TWC an insight into self-publishing.

Leila has written two books on her very traumatic life story and she is currently writing a novel. With talks to WIs, schools and on radio programmes she has a very busy and interesting life.

The members were busy taking notes and asking questions and there was a discussion to find the best way to promote their writing.

Chairman Joy Ridgewell welcomed Andy Swestun, who became a new member of the TWC.

Mary Vear was commended on her entry poem for the Brentwood Writers’ Circle competition – the subject was finding words to rhyme with orange, not an easy subject.

It was agreed to buy a DVD of the celebrations held in October for the TAC and Thameside Theatre anniversary.

A miniature rose was presented from members to Tina Thompson to welcome her back after her recent stay in hospital.

Tickets have been obtained to attend the TOPS performance of Enchanted on July 22 at the Thameside Theatre in Grays.

TWC meets on alternate Wednesdays at the Hugh Delargy Complex Hall, in Chadwell St Mary. Next meetings are on August 1 and 15, from 7.30pm to 9.30pm.
