WEST TILBURY WI

WEST Tilbury WI invited guests from other institutes to their 71st birthday party this month.

The tables were decorated with colourful flowers and foliage and a sumptuous buffet was laid out.

The theme was school days and guests joined in wearing short skirts, pigtails and ties - not forgetting the spots that come with growing up.

President Gill Morris rang the bell and invited Grace Patch to say grace to start our meal.

Our speaker and entertainer was Brian Carline, headmaster, author, broadcaster and stand-up comedian. He gave an amusing insight into his life as a teacher in schools and locations across the country.

Votes of thanks were given from Joy Ridgewell and visitor Doreen Kelly. It was a most entertaining and successful evening.

Raffle winners were Lorriane Bromage, Hazel Green, Clare Gale, Iris Crane, Christine Skinner, Jackie Harrington and Rosemary Bannister.

The next meeting will see a talk by historical author Elizabeth Lord. It is at West Tilbury Village Hall on August 7 from 7pm to 9.30pm. Visitors are welcome.
