CHAFFORD HUNDRED WI

OUR June meeting was chaired by president Janet King who welcomed 29 members and three visitors.

The evening was spent indulging in a cream tea served by the members of our committee.

To maintain the momentum of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, Lynne Howe provided a quiz based on questions about the Royal Family and our resident brain of Britain, Madeleine Kittle, was the clear winner.

Vice-president Maureen Bamford told us about Christian Hope International from Romford to Rwanda.

It was set up in 1994 following the genocide in Rwanda. St Peters Church in Harold Wood formed a small group to offer assistance.

They asked people to knit vests for new born and premature babies and also to knit or crochet small blankets.

Through her own church, St Peter & St Pauls, Grays, Maureen has been involved in coordinating an appeal for this project and felt our ladies would like to take part.

The culmination of our month came with our Queen’s Diamond Jubilee fete, held in conjunction with All Saints Church, Chafford Hundred.

The event was a great success, thanks to the outstanding support of the ladies of Chafford Hundred WI.

Visitors included our local MP, Jackie Doyle-Price.

We have outings planned to RHS Wisley in July and Buckingham Palace in August and we will be celebrating our third birthday in September.

Our next meeting takes place at 7pm on Thursday, July 12, at the Beacon Centre, All Saints Church, Drake Road, Chafford Hundred.

The theme for the evening will be My Treasured Possession.
