STANFORD-LE-HOPE AND CORRINGHAM TOWNSWOMEN’S GUILD

JENNY White, chairman, welcomed members and visitors to the June meeting.

Disappointingly Sister Marika Rebicsek, booked to speak on behalf of Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, was unable to attend.

Daniel Kirby and his mother, Carol, who runs Kirby Coaches with her husband, Simon Kirby, stepped in at short notice.

They gave a very interesting account of the history of the company, started by Simon’s father 60 years ago. They are holding an entertainment and travel fair, at their Rayleigh depot, on September 29 to mark their Golden Jubilee.

Carol and Daniel answered many questions from members relating to coach travel, stressing the importance of health and safety and their wish to remain a small, family firm.

Pat Spencer reported on the Federation AGM, held at the Paddocks, Canvey, and attended by eight of our members.

The afternoon speaker, Jean Fullerton, gave a very interesting talk on her journey to becoming an author. She had won the Harry Bowling prize in 2006.

The competition, an item of royal memorabilia, was won by Joyce Brice. Fourteen ladies enjoyed afternoon tea at Orsett Hall to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

The summer social will be held on July 11 at 7.30pm in Corring-ham Village Hall. The competition is a flower from your garden.
