PRESIDENT Gill Morris welcomed three visitors and Iris Crane read her report on the annual county meeting, which was an excellent day.
George Mills told of him and his wife’s latest trip to tthe Ukraine and thanked everyone who gave goods to help out.
The pair have been doing this for more than 18 years, a remarkable couple.
Ruth Bond, chairman of the National Federation, gave us an insight into the work the WI does and the people she meets travelling in different countries.
Then the Lord Lieutenant of Essex spoke of his time with the Esssex Women’s Advisory Group.
The meeting ended with a talk from Olympic gold medal winner for 1984, Tessa Sanderson, who spoke of her life during her career as a javelin thrower and how she now has a training academy to help young athletes.
Unfortunately this month’s speaker was unable to come to the April WI meeting, so members set about to entertain themselves.
Joy Ridgewell recited a poem she had written and told the group a story, then everyone joined in a memory card game.
Raffle prizes were won by Margaret Clamp and Dorothy Hawes.
The next meeting is on May 1 at 7pm at West Tilbury Village Hall.
