CHAFFORD HUNDRED WI
10:58am Wednesday 11th April 2012 in Club Call
PRESIDENT Janet King welcomed 29 members, two new visitors and Marilyn Tilbrook from Aveley WI.
Our speaker for the evening was Derek Patient, of Hillcrest Apiaries, Aveley, who gave a very interesting and informative slide show and talk on the subject of beekeeping.
Derek has a great wealth of knowledge regarding bees which he has attained having been a beekeeper for many years. Our ladies had many questions which Derek kindly answered.
Janet King introduced Gemma Riddles, from Ngage, who had been kind enough to come along and join us at short notice to give a talk on the subject of the digital TV switchover.
Gemma gave a very informative talk and was able to answer questions raised by our ladies and also supplied leaflets with information regarding the switchover.
Members were given an update on arrangements for our forthcoming Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Fete on June 16 and were also asked to support our WI produce stall at the EWT Chafford Gorges Visitor Centre Easter event.
March has again proven to be a busy month with some of our members attending the 95th County Annual Meeting at the Cliffs Pavilion, Westcliff.
The highlight was guest speaker, Tessa Sanderson CBE, who gave an upbeat talk on her life in athletics and her Olympic achievements.
Five of our book club members enjoyed an evening’s entertainment at Thurrock Operatic Society’s excellent performance of the musical Oliver at the Thameside Theatre in Grays.
We have an interesting speaker lined up for our next meeting, which takes place at 7pm on Thursday, April 12, at the Beacon Centre, All Saints Church, Drake Road.
