BASILDON & THURROCK EPILEPSY ACTION

AT our March meeting we had a talk from Alan Barber, who manages IMPACT Welfare Benefits Advice service.

He summarised the changes happening now and in the near future including migration of certain benefits to ESA or JSA by means of assessments, personal independence payment introduction by 2013, forthcoming universal credit (amalgamation of JSA, ESA, housing benefit and tax credits), DLA and carers allowance (including expected rates for people with active epilepsy) and the help they can offer with appeals.

He also answered our specific questions – it was an interesting and informative evening. Our next meeting, which is open to all, is on April 16, at George Hurd Centre, Basildon.
