10:00am Thursday 29th July 2010
THE July meeting was attended by nearly 60 members and visitors. After opening the meeting, president Ann Newmeir introduced June Maylen with her dog Ushka, from the National Guide Dogs for the blind.
June was accompanied by puppy walker Jeff and his current puppy, Becky.
Jeff talked about what it means being a puppy walker after which June, blind since birth, gave a very honest and open talk about her life with a guide dog. The members agreed it had been a most enlightening morning and in thanking June, the president commented on June’s remark that it was like ‘living in a power cut’ which was ‘annoying’. The President said we should all remember that comment when we think we have problems ourselves. A donation was made by the North Stifford WI to the National Association and, for the first time, a voluntary contribution envelope was circulated, resulting in a total donation of £98. Members were reminded next month’s meeting, on August 11, will be a bring and buy sale.
Anyone interested in becoming a member, or visiting, can ring Ann on 07887 516565 for more information. We meet on the second Wednesday of every month at 10.30am in North Stifford Village Hall.
