10:33am Thursday 28th January 2010
THE January meeting opened with the president, Audrey Haines.
The December meeting had taken the form of Christmas lunch at the Masonic Hall and had been enjoyed by all.
This month’s speaker was Glynis, the local representative of Age Concern.
She explained that Age Concern was a voluntary organisation and registered charity that had branches country-wide and abroad as well as in Essex and more immediately in Thurrock, mostly manned by dedicated volunteers.
Its purpose is to promote the welfare of older people, help to maintain their dignity and supply helpful advice and information on a wide variety of topics that are of concern to them.
Glynis brought along many leaflets explaining the help that can be accessed through Age Concern, which has its local headquarters at the Beehive Centre, in West Street, Grays.
February’s meeting will be the AGM and the president stressed the importance of attending as a means of ensuring the continuation of a successful organization.
All retired teachers who live in or have taught in Thurrock will be welcome – third Friday of the month, 10.15am at the Masonic Hall, Lenthall Avenue, Grays.
