THURROCK PROBUS CLUB PRESIDENT Reg Lee extended a warm welcome to the 26 members of the Thurrock Probus Club in attendance at its June monthly meeting, held the Masonic Hall, Lenthall Avenue, Grays.
Following lunch, member Albert Cormack gave a talk on World War I graves in France and Belgium.
He became interested in the subject following attending a talk on war graves, and the fact he wanted to know more about an uncle lost in fighting in Belgium during World War I.
His uncle’s body was never identified as such and Albert told, among other things, of the difficulties of identifying bodies during the war because of the terrible conditions in which the fighting took place.
Reg Lee extended a vote of thanks to Albert for his wonderful story.
He also paid tribute to the work undertaken by the War Graves Commission that maintains the many war grave cemeteries both in Europe and across the world.
