THURROCK U3A AT a well-attended meeting on May 27, members were delighted to learn a further grant of £7,104 had been received from the Thames Gateway Development Corporation Trust.
This additional funding will be spent on the purchase of further laptop computers for the family and local history groups, music equipment for the aqua aerobics, a wide screen monitor, projector and screen for presentations, WII fitness equipment, a professional tutor for the painting group and radio microphones.
A new aqua aerobics group has been formed.
Speakers Jennie Mead, from the library service and Elizabeth Surry, manager of the Chadwell St Mary branch library, gave a very interesting and informative account of the various services on offer through the libraries. Many special events, such as author lectures and children’s reading sessions are a regular feature of t he service.
The audience was further entertained by two U3A members, Shirley and Peter Spreadborough, singing a mixture of gospel and secular ballads.
