Pupils and teachers at West Wood Primary School are proud of giant sunflower. Green-fingered Year 2 pupils have managed to grow a 9ft 11in sunflower. After seeing an article in the News Shopper about a girl who had grown a sunflower to the height of 8ft, teacher Sarah Tullet rang the news desk to say her pupils had grown one nearly two foot taller. The monster was planted from seed in May and has grown at a rate of nearly three foot per month. “It's just amazing how fast they have grown. The children have watered them every day and have kept up weeding,” says Miss Tullet. If you have an unusual plant or pet, then call 01689 885 717 or email jhigginson@newsquest.co.uk
