Next year, for the first time, youngsters will be able to study degree courses right here in Thurrock.

Bosses at South Essex College revelled in their announcement, and so they should.

This is a giant step forward for education within this borough and I agree with the college’s chief executive Anthony McGarel who said this marks a “hugely significant moment for Thurrock”.

The youngsters the Gazette  spoke to this week were clearly excited too and felt this could herald a new era for young people in Grays, and the wider borough.

It will also further advance, and enhance, the changing face of the town helping to unlock its potential.

The more the college/university grows and achieves, the more the area will benefit.
And it was fitting the good news was met with Royal Approval...

Prince Edward was in town to officially open the £40million campus which has quickly become a focal point of positivity since getting started at the end of last year.

At the moment just one in five of the borough’s youngsters are in higher education.
But that won’t be the case for much longer thanks to this fantastic development.
